Alba Scientific Partners with Bienne Technology to Bring Orion NP-SIMS to Europe

Alba Scientific is pleased to announce a new partnership with Bienne Technology, making the Orion NP-SIMS platform accessible to researchers and industry users across Europe.

Bienne Technology, founded by mass spectrometry researchers in College Station, Texas, developed the Orion system to address long-standing limitations in conventional TOF-SIMS, including limited spatial resolution, destructive sampling, and loss of fine chemical detail due to signal averaging.

The Orion NP-SIMS platform introduces a different approach to nanoscale chemical imaging, using hypervelocity nano-projectiles and event-by-event detection to enable high-resolution analysis down to ~10 nm, while preserving the sample for further investigation. The system is designed to deliver exceptionally high data throughput, generating large volumes of individual mass spectra within short acquisition times under typical operating conditions.

The platform is available in two configurations:

  • Orion MK Life — label-free molecular imaging for cell biology, pathology, pharmacology and drug delivery research
  • Orion MK Nano— nanoscale chemical analysis for materials science, semiconductor development, thin films and EUV resist characterisation

Through this partnership, Alba Scientific will provide European researchers with direct access to Orion NP-SIMS technology, supported by local application expertise, training and technical support.

We also offer a sample measurement service, allowing users to evaluate performance on real samples before committing to an instrument.
